Really cool hand art   • Jan 27 2007

Guido Daniele is an artist that has done some really cool body painting.  It’s similar to the hand-shadow animals you made as a kid, but much, much better.

24 Season Premier Thoughts

Fox certainly sold a lot of advertising to the big mobile phone companies.  Verizon is pushing the Q, Sprint is showing off its GPS functions, and Cingular is now the new at&t (they use lowercase, so I think I should too).

Cingular is also showing off the Samsung Blackjack, both in a Cingular commercial, and a Samsung commercial that I’m sure Cingular helped underwrite.  I was hoping Cingular would change the “splat” to the at&t blue, but it doesn’t appear so.

Oh, and Jack’s back for another season of ridiculous chases, convenient timing, breaking every rule in the book, and implausible situations.  Can’t wait.

A Butterfly Flaps It’s Wings, and I Put Syrup In My Coffee

by Josh on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 12:30 PMNo comments

Well, not really, but you get the idea.  Let’s start at the beginning:

7:00am -  E-mails from work wake me up.
7:30am - Log into work and see there is a problem with a NIC card on a server.
8:00am - Problem at work solved.  I’m wide awake.
8:05am - Decide to actually get out of bed and start the day (way too early for that normally).
8:15am - While enjoying first cup of coffee, decide to order a waffle from the diner since I had a craving for it.
8:35am - Waffle arrives.  I place tin with waffle in it on kitchen table.  Pour second cup of coffee.  Put second cup of coffee on top of fridge (normal spot where I pour the milk into it).
8:36am - Open tin with waffle in it.  Take waffle out and place on plate.  Open fridge to get syrup (real maple syrup from Vermont—the best!).  Grab syrup, open it, pour some into coffee.  Close syrup.  Place back in fridge.  Grab milk.  Open milk.  Start to pour milk onto waffle, but catch myself just before it comes out.  Wonder why I’m doing that.
8:37am - Open fridge, and remember that I was holding the syrup bottle a moment ago.  Look back at waffle and find there is no syrup on it.  Wonder where syrup went.  Look at coffee cup.  Say, “No way,” to myself.  Look in coffee cup.  See weird slick on top of coffee.  Sigh loudly.

See, the butterfly effect in it’s full glory.  A server NIC dies, and because of that, I put syrup in my coffee.  At least it sort of makes sense.

Now if I could only figure out why I keep putting shaving cream on my toothbrush in the morning…

Homebrew Kit

by Josh on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 10:14 AMNo comments

For the holidays, a friend of mine got me a Mr. Beer home brewing kit after we caught some show called Beer Nutz on one of those weird HD channels that you didn’t know you had, but you watch anyway because the picture is so amazing that it doesn’t matter what the content is.  I mentioned that I tried to brew beer at home once and that it was a colossal failure, and this person thought it would be fun for me to try again.

This kit is definitely for an amateur, and even suggests storing the brewed beer in plastic soda bottles.  This might be perfect for me.

I sense another attempt at home brewing coming soon.

Bowling

by Josh on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 1:17 AMNo comments

Went bowling after work today.  Had a good time, but bowled well under my average.  Usually my first game is around 90, but I pick it up after the warm up and generally finish somewhere between 110 and 130.  Tonight, my first game was in the 60’s, and my second was 94.  I didn’t even break 100!  Ugh.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I didn’t drink a lot.  Perhaps the alcohol allows me to relax and “be one with the ball”.
