ARC Gloria (Columbia), Belle Poule (France), Gorch Fock (Germany), and BAP Union (Peru) parade in New York Harbor as the Red Arrows fly overhead
Once again, the tall ships put on a parade in New York Harbor, and just like in 2012 and 2000, I went downtown to see them.
Unlike last time, there were very few clouds in the sky. We were also in the middle of a heat wave, making it 94°-97°F (34°-36°C) most of the morning, so sunscreen and hydration was very important.
Blue Angels and fireboats at the start of the parade
The route that the boats took this time was closer to Manhattan than in previous years, so the Statue of Liberty is much smaller in the background, but it meant that spectators on the Manhattan side could more easily see the sailors on the boats.

Not only was there a tall ships parade, but there were also several flyovers of various airplanes and even a few helicopters. Even the Goodyear blimp made an appearance.
